Cub Scouts from across Kosciusko and Whitley counties gathered in North Webster March 16 for the annual Lincolnway District Pinewood Derby race. The boys, ages 6-11, build 7-inch long, 1-inch wide cars that race down an inclined track. The boys receive the cars around the first of the year as kits: a solid block of wood, four wheels and four nails. By the time the Cub Scouts race the cars, hours of cutting, sanding, and lubricating have gone into each car. Winners included: Tiger Scouts Samuel Savage, North Webster, third; Alexander Fisher, Leesburg, second; Devon DeWitt, Syracuse, first; Wolf Scouts Jeremy Cates, North Webster, third; Brad Nethercutt, Warsaw-Harrison School, second; Derek Dunithan, Syracuse, first (new track record); Bear Scouts: Zachary Laureano, Harrison School, third; Brett Fry, Hope Evangelical Lutheran, second; Levi Klosowski, Leesburg, first; Webelos: Tanner Hughes, Pierceton, third; Brandon Fox, North Webster, second; Logan Neher, St. Catherine's Catholic, first.
