A Leesburg man is dead after a Monday night scooter accident.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department press release, Chris D. Wagner, 38, Leesburg, suffered head injuries as a result of the accident. He was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wagner was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
On Monday, at approximately 7:58 p.m., the Kosciusko County Central Dispatch Center received a call regarding a personal injury accident on CR 100E, approximately 75 feet north of Levi Lee Road.
The sheriff's department said that, according to evidence at the scene, Wagner was traveling north on CR 100E when, for an unknown reason, he left the east side of the road. The scooter apparently overturned several times and Wagner was thrown off the scooter. A passerby noticed the scooter and Wagner off the side of the road and called 911. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and attended to Wagner.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Multi-Township and Plain Township emergency medical services.
The accident remains under investigation.
Wagner's obituary appears on page 3A of today's newspaper.
