Sciarra Receives $6,000 Scholarship

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Lauren Sciarra, Winona Lake, a senior at Warsaw Community High School, has been selected as one of 56 winners nationwide of a $6,000 College Educational Scholarship by USTA Serves, the National Charitable Foundation of the United States Tennis Association.The Foundation has granted 70 high school students a variety of college scholarships this spring, totaling $398,000.

The honorees were selected from applicants throughout the country on the basis of their commitment to academic success, their local community and the game of tennis. An objective of USTA Serves is to encourage America's youth to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens.

Sciarra ranks in the top 5 percent of her class, is a National Honor Society member, Scholar Athlete and Youth Leadership Representative. She received the Wendy's Heisman award, Scholar athlete award, and Business Achievement award.

Sciarra's extracurricular activities include peer tutor, Octagon Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Student Athletic Board, nursing home volunteer, food drive and church youth group. On the tennis court, Sciarra was captain for her high school team, varsity doubles sectional champion in 2008-2009, and participates in the USTA Jr. Team Tennis program. She will attend Purdue University in the fall.
