Only one Warsaw Community Schools patron attended Monday's budget hearing, a situation that may be remedied by a suggestion from the Warsaw superintendent.
"The budget should reflect our priorities," said Dr. Lee Harman. "We need to strongly consider putting together a community-based planning process so we develop clear objectives for the future."
The board gave Harman permission to start gathering names for such a committee.
"The value of community-based planning is input from the public on determining priorities," Harman said.
He added this morning that he envisions using representative groups from across the community - "parents, business people, members of the staff."
The effort, he said, is not specifically directed at increasing public involvement in the schools, but is "more of a need for us to take some time and do some in-depth planning. We haven't done that for a while."
Harman will report on his progress with the project at the next regular school board meeting on Sept. 13.
