School Purchases

This week, I was at ACE in Warsaw, and the woman in front of me in line was buying a BrAun coffee maker. The shelf price was $106 and she paid with a purchase voucher from the Warsaw Schools.

As she checked out, she commented that they lost the filter basket, therefore, she had to buy whole new coffee maker. She thought someone must have thrown out the basket.

I checked on the web and found out that BrAun sells replacement parts. In fact, to my surprise, they sell filter baskets from $12.95 to $16.95 plus ship and handling. This assumes that they are replacing with the same make of coffee maker.

Other coffee makers were being sold at shelf price of $22 to $39. I also checked some of the other brands and they all provide replacement parts, including baskets much cheaper than BrAun.

I am sure that the buyer is very proud of her purchase, in that the coffee maker apparently, was discounted to $89 for the school, $17 - Wow! - what a savings on a filter basket.

This is how the Warsaw Schools take care of the never-ending pot of taxpayer money.
