Not only is the president up for re-election this year, but so are many other federal, state and local office holders.
While the Indiana primary is still several months away, now is as good a time as any to begin looking at those running for office in 2004 at all levels of government. Or to consider running for an office yourself.
At the federal office, positions up for election besides the president include one seat for the U.S. Senate and the third district U.S. Representative.
Indiana Governor Joe Kernan will try to hold his seat in the governor's race at the state level. There are three Indiana senate districts up for election this year - 9, 13 and 18 - and also three state representative districts - 18, 22 and 23.
Besides the state convention delegates to be chosen at the county level, Kosciusko County residents this year will need to decide on seven county offices. Those offices include the clerk of the circuit court, county treasurer, county coroner, county surveyor, northern district county commissioner, middle district county commissioner and county council at-large.
Three school boards will hold their elections in the primary election only.
Tippecanoe Valley School Board seats to be voted on by registered voters include district 1 (Harrison Township) and district 2 (Seward Township). Both are in Kosciusko County.
Wa-Nee School Board election will include the seat for Olive Township (Elkhart County), Scott and Jefferson Township (Kosciusko) and at-large (either Elkhart or Kosciusko).
The third school board with a primary-only election is Whitko, which has three district positions up for re-election. District one includes Monroe and Washington townships in Kosciusko County. District two includes Richland township in Whitley county and Jackson Township in Kosciusko. District three is Cleveland Township in Whitley County.
School boards with general election-only races include Triton, Warsaw and Wawasee.
