Posted

The public is invited by the Warsaw School Board to participate in a special work session at 7 p.m. Monday at Warsaw Community High School.

The work session will review proposed changes to several student-related policies:

• Athletic code of conduct - Proposes that the current 365-day suspension be continued, with the addition of community service, periodic drug testing and participation in the student assistance program.

Following the committee's report there will be an opportunity for members of the public to provide input.

• Grade point average - Reflects the change to block scheduling, details computer recording and calculation of grades and rank in class for high school students.

• Requirements for graduation - Adds the state requirement to pass the ISTEP+ graduation exam, and increases the number of credits to graduate from 38 to 40 by adding two required science credits.

• Drug and alcohol policy - Revises certain violations and consequences.

• Attendance policy, grades 7-12 - Clarifies procedures for makeup work.

• Racial harassment - adds references on contacting law enforcement and child protective services as necessary.

The session will be solely a work session, and the board will not take action on any of the policies. The meeting will be held in the large lecture room at WCHS.
