SYRACUSE – The Wawasee High School Robotics Club, Iron Pride, made a demonstration at the school board meeting Tuesday.
The club team, led by WHS teacher Jed Wandland, were present at the May Wawasee School Board meeting Tuesday night and showed off what their creations could do. The team competed in the state championships in Indianapolis in March, placing 16th.
The students controlled robots that picked up and shot Nerf® balls like basketballs into hoops. A net was set up at the board meeting, and students demonstrated how the robots work.
The board also approved the following actions: Hans Griepentrog submitted his letter of resignation as the WHS chemistry teacher; Kim Conrad, Syracuse Elementary School instructional coach, and Bob Larhman, WCSC director of support services, both submitted letters of retirement; and Jennifer Mitchell was recommended as a full-time mental health therapist.
In other news, Larhman provided an update on the Syracuse Elementary School site. The locker room and mezzanine walls are complete. Storm lines from the gym roof have been connected to the sewer systems. Masons will be starting the cafeteria walls and material for the gym floor will be delivered next week.
