Voters in Warsaw Precinct 1, Ward 2, will go to the polls Tuesday in a special election to choose their school board representative.
Chuck Sauders and Sterling Watkins are the only candidates on the ballot for Tuesday's election of District 4 representative for Warsaw School Board, which was ordered in December by Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Rex Reed.
Reed's ruling ended a lawsuit filed by Watkins after errors occurred in the November election. Watkins asked for the special election because one of four voting booths for Precinct 1, Ward 2, did not contain the page with the school board candidates. By the time the error was discovered, 63 people had already voted in that precinct.
Sauders won the election by five votes.
Watkins filed suit Nov. 8, saying that because of the error, it was impossible to determine the actual vote count, and Reed agreed in a ruling issued Dec. 8.
According to Kosciusko County Clerk Sharon Christner, there are 913 registered voters in the affected area.
The special election was set for Tuesday because Indiana law specifies that it be held on the ninth Tuesday following the issuing of the judge's order. The ninth Tuesday is Feb. 8.
Only voters in Precinct 1, Ward 2, will be allowed to vote at the Home and Family Arts Building on the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. According to the clerk's office, that ward is the only ward that votes in the Home and Family Arts Building. Regular times of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. will apply.
