SAT Scores Of 7 Area High Schools Released, Compared

Indiana Department of Education recently released SAT scores for the past year.
By adding the scores for reading, writing and math, a perfect score would total 2400.
The highest composite score for a local high school is 1575 by Lakeland Christian Academy, though the private school tests fewer students than public high schools.
To get to the average score of 1575, LCA students scored an average of 552 in reading, 514 in math and 509 in writing. (To see how that compares to past years, see the accompanying graph).
Manchester High School did second best with an average composite score of 1505. Scores included 502 for reading, 529 for math and 474 for writing.
Tippecanoe Valley's average composite score of 1490 included 492 for reading, 479 for math and 519 for writing.
With an average composite score of 1472, Warsaw Community High School had scores of 493 in reading, 506 in math and 473 in writing for the past year.
In Syracuse, Wawasee High School's composite average score was 1449. That included 486 for reading, 497 for math and 466 for writing.
In Bourbon, Triton Junior-Senior High School's score of 1443 included an average reading score of 461, 508 for math and 474 for writing.
Finally, Whitko High School had the lowest average composite score in the area of 1409. That score included 478 for reading, 486 for math and 445 for writing.
By category, the best average reading score belonged to LCA at 552, but Manchester had the best math at 529. Tippecanoe Valley's 519 was the best writing average score.
Lowest scores in each category belonged to Triton in reading at 461; Tippecanoe Valley in math at 479; and Whitko in writing at 445.
Compared to their 2007 average composite scores, five of the seven area high schools saw their scores for 2010 go down. Only Tippecanoe Valley and Manchester high schools saw them go up.
In 2007, the average composite score for Tippecanoe Valley was 1355, which increased to 1490 this past year. Manchester's went up from 1482 in 2007 to 1505 in 2010.
Warsaw's dropped in 2007 at 1496 to 1472 in 2010; while Whitko's dropped in 2007 at 1483 to 1409 in 2010.Wawasee's only dropped by two from 1451 in 2007 to 1449 in 2010; but Triton's dropped from 1508 in 2007 to 1443 in 2010.
Even LCA's average composite score dropped in 2010 compared to 2007. In 2007, the score was 1658, compared to 1575 this year.
