Sara Kay McSherry Powers, 76, of Richardson, Texas, died Feb. 6, 2013, in her residence, after a long illness. She was born March 6, 1936, to John Tucker and Katharyn Weirick McSherry. She began her career in journalism and writing at the Starke County publishers, Knox, while still in high school. She attended Depauw University and earned a degree in 1958 from Indiana University in English composition. She became the women’s editor at the Indianapolis News in the early ’60s. After moving to Dallas in 1976, she became a copy editor at the Dallas Morning News and later a technical editor working at Electrospace, Texas Instruments and retired in 2004 from Raytheon. She spent summers at Goose Lake. Surviving are a companion, Kerry Peter Moskop; a daughter, Elizabeth McSherry Powers (and spouse Andrew Wagner); two granddaughters; a son, Anthony Bennett Powers (and Meghan); and a sister, Becky (and spouse J.R.) Powers. A memorial service will be Feb. 18 at Lover’s Lane Methodist Church, Dallas.
