Sara 'Jane' Mock Monteith

DIXON, Ill. – Sara “Jane” Mock Monteith, 71, Dixon, Ill., passed away Dec. 14, 2015, at peace in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Warsaw, to Sara Elizabeth Bishop  and Wavel Dale Mock. On July 30, 1966, she married Richard Alan Monteith, and they were married 49 years.
She graduated from Milford High School and attended International Business College, Fort Wayne. She loved music. She began taking piano lessons in the third grade, played the clarinet throughout high school and enjoyed singing in the choir. She played the piano and organ for every church that she attended, and she gifted her love of music to her children and grandchildren.
She retired in 2009 after working for 27 years at the Lee County Health Department as a support staff supervisor. She volunteered for a few years at the Hope Life Center and helped deliver for Meals on Wheels. She continued to sing and play the piano and organ at the Church of the Brethren, Dixon, where she was an active member.
In addition to music, she cherished family get-togethers, Scrabble and domino competitions with family and friends, Christmas time, and traveling with her family to see God’s wonderful world.
She was a loving mother to Reni (and spouse Paul) Whitcombe, Dixon; Ronda (and spouse Dean) Ekberg. Mahomet; Ryan (Jaimi Beekman) Monteith and Rochelle (Andrew Bollman) Monteith-Bollman, all of Dixon; a sister, Dolores “Dot” Selvey, Warsaw; a brother, James Mock, Warsaw; a proud grandmother to Thomas, David, Sara and Esther Whitcombe, Isaac and Joshua Ekberg, and Asher Bollman; and extended family members, Amber Moseley, Addison Lightner and Brooke Bocek; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Hannah Grace Ekberg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dixon Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Marty Creager officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
