Santa's House Open For Visits

Posted

Santa Claus is coming to town - starting today.

The Breakfast Optimist Club is sponsoring the Santa House again this year.

Last year more than 550 children visited with Santa. Each child received a candy cane and a photo with Santa. It is all free. The children were not the only ones seizing the opportunity as many adults opted to visit with Santa, too.

The Octagon club, which is a high school group sponsored by the Optimist Club, will be assisting Santa. Many of the Octagon members are bilingual, which provides an opportunity for community members who speak other languages to visit with Santa.

The Santa House is located between Kmart and Hallmark. With a bright and shiny new coat of paint, and new carpeting on the deck, it will be hard to miss.

Santa will be available to visit on the following weekends: Dec. 1-3, 8-10 and 15-17. Times are 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.

On Dec. 22, children can visit with Santa from 6 to 8 p.m. The following day, Dec. 23, Santa will be at his house from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The Breakfast Optimist Club serves the youth of the community and has more than 90 regularly attending members who meet Wednesday mornings at 6:30 for a breakfast meeting.

The Breakfast Optimist Club donates thousands of hours and dollars each year to benefit the youth of the community. Optimists also sell Christmas Trees next to Owens on Center Street. All of the proceeds from tree sales stay in the community for local youth.

Anyone interested in visiting the Optimist Club can attend a breakfast meeting each Wednesday at 7 a.m. at Westminster in Winona Lake. Come as early as 6:30 a.m. for breakfast.
