Santa Claus Coming To Silver Lake Dec. 16SILVER LAKE – Santa Claus is coming to town in Silver Lake at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 on a fire truck.

That’s right, kids, Santa will be riding on a fire engine around town to wave Christmas cheer. To find out if your house on the route, visit the Silver Lake Fire Department Facebook page; and if it’s not, email the SLFD to get your home added as a stop.

That was announced at the Silver Lake Town Council meeting Wednesday. The traditional firehouse Santa visit has been cancelled due to the health pandemic.

Also Wednesday, the council bid goodbye to Council President Chad Miner, who attended his last regular council meeting after he had to resign after being elected judge this year of Kosciusko Superior Court III.

“It’s been an honor serving, and I’ve enjoyed working with everybody here in the town, and I’ll definitely miss it,” Miner said before the meeting adjourned.

The town also declined to participate in a Text My Gov system that would have cost $2,000 initially and then $1,500 each year after that. That text system would send text messages to town residents who signed up for them to alert them of, for example, tornado siren testing. The council agreed that “word gets around pretty quick” and the expense was unnecessary.

The council also agreed to sign another year of a service agreement with Kosciusko?Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO) that will continue to provide outreach with the town to help them with things like a facade grant.

The next Silver Lake Town Council meeting is 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at Town Hall. The annual year-end meeting is 5 p.m. Dec. 28, where council members said they’ll sign final claim dockets and it should be “short and sweet.”

A caucus to replace Miner is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16.
