COLUMBIA CITY — Sandra Lou Lackey, 70, Columbia City, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Born April 3, 1948, in Prestonsburg, Ky., she was the daughter of Dewey Hackworth and Edith Harmon Hackworth Frey.

At an early age she moved to the Warsaw area and then to Peru, where she graduated from North Miami High School with the Class of 1966. Sandy went on to attend Fort Wayne Beauty College to become a hairdresser.

On Sept. 14, 1968, she married James Lackey in Columbia City.

She was a faithful and active member at Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, where she helped with the AWANA Club and was a Sparks director. While Sandy and Jim lived in Sebring, Fla., in the winter months, she was a member of Leisure Lakes Baptist Church in Lake Placid.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Lackey; sons, Steve Lackey, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jim Lackey, Columbia City; granddaughter, Brooklyn Lackey-Byler; stepfather, Frank (Laura) Frey, Columbia City; twin sisters, Billie (Tim) Mishler and Barb Engle, both of Columbia City; brother, David (Deb) Hackworth, Columbia City; and stepsister, Karen Rhinehart.

She was preceded in death by her father; mother; and an infant daughter, Candy Sue Lackey.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Brad Fredrickson officiating. Private family burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery.
