NORTH WEBSTER – Sandra L. “Sandy” Mafera, 71, of Leesburg, died at 2:55 p.m. May 31, 2011, in IU Goshen Hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1939, in La Porte, to Frank J. and Marian R. Knoll Rauschenbaugh. On July 4, 1962, in Westood, Mass., she married Stephen J. “Steve” Mafera, who survives. She lived in Auburn for many years before moving to Sawmill Lake near North Webster. She attended Indiana University, Bloomington. She was president of the Welcome Wagon Club and executive director of United Way of Kosciusko County. She started a club for women, Nur Fur Uns, meaning Just For Us, and created Auburn Network of Enterprising Women. She was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of the Kosciusko Leadership Academy. Also surviving are a daughter, Stephanie (and spouse Scott) Taylor, Coruna; a son, Stephen A. “Tony” (and spouse Lynn) Mafera, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; her mother, Marian Rauschenbach, Syracuse; a sister, Sue (and spouse Neal) Koppert, Union, Mich.; and a brother, Frank (and spouse Barbara) Rauschenbach, Jeffersonville. She was preceded in death by her father. No public services or calling are planned at this time.
