SYRACUSE – Samuel E. Bowman, 67, of Pierceton, passed away Aug. 11, 2013, in his residence. He was born July 1, 1946, in Marion, to Enoch and Fern Addison Davis. At 10 months, he was adopted by Gail R. and Betty Weicht Bowman. He lived most of his life in the Pierceton and North Webster areas and graduated from North Webster High School. On Oct. 27, 1973, he married Diane Powell who survives. He worked as a machinist for Weatherhead Corp., and later at Dana Corp., Columbia City and Syracuse, and R.R. Donnelly, Warsaw. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and was a member of the North Webster American Legion Post 253. Affectionately known as “Gizzard Sam,” he liked to fish, go to garage sales, wheel and deal, and help others. He loved his family, his granddaughter and his son’s dog, Pepper. Also surviving are a daughter, Kelly (and spouse Tony) McMillen, Fort Wayne; son, Eric, Pierceton; granddaughter, Megan McMillen; half-sister, Betty Jesse, Summitville; mother-in-law, Claudean Powell, Leesburg; uncle, Jimmy Bowman, Bluffton; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, with the Rev. Mike Beezley officiating. Military rites will follow.
