Same Respect

Editor, Times-Union:

I have read the letters recently praising the Obama victory and figured he won fair and square so let them have their gloats. But I cannot stand by while they tell the people who did not vote for him that they must "come together" and "put our differences aside and support the man."

I, for one, intend to do as a recent columnist suggested and give Obama the same respect and support that democrats gave to President Bush in 2001.

The president-elect has shown that he is the same old liberal hack in the same vein as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank. President Bush has gone out of his way to make the transition as smooth as possible, showing that what he lacks in leadership abilities he makes up for in class. What does Obama do? He leaks and distorts conversations he had with Bush the next day in order to gain posturing points.

His first cabinet level appointment was Rohm Emmanuel, a man known as an extreme partisan and for his abilities to twist arms in his own party to get votes.

And what policies do you want conservatives to support? The naming of liberal justices?

Democrats have held up Bush's higher level judicial appointments for over three years in hopes of having a democrat in the White House. Yes, let us come together and have liberal judges making up the law as they go and have gay marriage, infanticide, gun confiscation and the naturalization of all illegal aliens without a single vote of our house and senate. Let's just name the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals as our ruling body and do away with the president and legislature.

I heard the president-elect wants to reverse all the executive orders that President Bush signed concerning drilling on government land. Maybe my memory is fuzzy but it seems to me that when President Bush signed those orders it started the downward spiral in oil prices. I know that the economy is playing a huge roll in the reduction, but it all started with the executive order. Since much of commodity speculation is psychology related, how do you suppose suddenly cutting off domestic oil sources will be regarded? Get ready to pay a lot more for energy under Democratic rule. As for alternate energy sources, bring them online first then phase out oil and coal.

Another show of faith in "working together" is being shown by Democrats in Minnesota. Ballots for their candidate are mysteriously appearing out of trunks of cars and uncounted votes appearing out of thin air in two heavy Democratic districts and nowhere else in the state. All this even before a recount. Democrats are out to steal that election so they can get a filibuster-proof senate. This shows us exactly what the Democratic mindset is. And it is not bipartisan.

So get off your high horses and stop your gloating. You may believe you have a mandate, but the only mandate was a repudiation of the way President Bush has run the country. Obama knew it and that is why he focused on running against President Bush and tying McCain to Bush.
