A Samaritan air ambulance made its first landing on Silver Lake’s new helipad Thursday night. Construction on the helipad, located behind Silver Lake Fire Department, began last month and was completed this week. Assistant Fire Chief John Conley said the project was funded by the town and supplemented by donations. The air ambulance landed just after 7 p.m. Thursday. “This is better for the community,” Conley said. He said the helipad will offer patients easier access to care and also make it easier on the air ambulance, which can now land safely in a controlled environment. An open house will be scheduled next month to allow the public to view the helipad.
