Salvation Army Says Thanks With 'Donuts'Salvation Army's Kosciusko County Chapter delivered 108 dozen doughnuts Tuesday for its annual Donut Day.
According to Capt. Jody Dalberg, the local chapter has Donut Day to say thank you to all its supporters during the year.
"We use it to say thank you now, and try to say thank you to those serving our country," Dalberg said. "We remember where it came from."Since 1917, when a cheerful Salvation Army lassie handed a doughnut to a homesick doughboy in France during World War I, the Salvation Army doughnut has symbolized loving concern for those in need.
Since 1921, according to information provided by the Salvation Army, the organization has been on the front lines in this area providing food, clothing and assistance to those affected by unemployment, disaster and poverty.
Besides delivering boxes of doughnuts to its supporters, the Salvation Army had a table at Marsh handing out free doughnuts to the public.
"Marsh lets us come in here as well. We really want to thank them. They've been so supportive," said Dalberg.
