On June 15, the Ninth Annual Kosciusko County Safe Kids Summer Safety Fest will be held at Central Park, Warsaw, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children and their parents can enjoy many games and activities and also pick up some information on various safety topics.
In addition, a car seat safety inspection will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. June 14. The YMCA and the Governor's Council for Impaired and Dangerous Driving will assist with the car seat inspection.
Registration for Saturday's contests begins at 9:30 a.m.
At 10 a.m., K.C. Sparks electricity safety show will be presented and is sponsored by REMC.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will present their water safety demonstration show at Center Lake at 11:30 a.m. In cooperation with the Lakeland Girl Scouts, the DNR will host another water safety demonstration at 1:30 p.m.
At 12:30 p.m., the Samaritan helicopter will land in Central Park for tours.
The baby crawling contest is at noon. There are two categories: babies six to eight months old and babies nine to 11 months old. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. The registration table is being hosted by the Warsaw Noon Optimist Club. Babies must be able to crawl but not walk. A parent may coax their baby to the finish line by use of a favorite toy, bottle or adult or sibling. Babies must stay in their own lanes to the end to qualify.
Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers.
Events conclude at 2 p.m. with a drawing for a free bicycle and safety gear. To register to win the bicycle and gear, a child must visit at least 10 of the safety booths. The booth sponsors also may provide other drawings and prizes.
Booths will include: Kosciusko Community Hospital, sun safety awareness; MedStat, poison control; American Red Cross, disaster preparedness for children, hand- washing importance with "Scrubby Bear"; The Crayon Box Daycare, backyard water safety for preschoolers; Marsh Pharmacy, focus on correct dosage of children's tylenol and Motrin, Fielding the Mouse also will make an appearance; Smoky the Bear; Vince and Larry, the Crash Test Dummies; Kosciusko County Health Department, immunization and Well Baby Clinic; Animal Welfare League, proper pet handling and care; Warsaw Community Public Library, kite safety; DNR, all-terrain vehicle safety; Kosciusko County Dispatch Center, 911; Warsaw Community Schools Transportation Department, bus safety; Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, fingerprinting and child identification; Project Home Safe, firearm safety with an appearance by Eddie the Eagle; Warsaw Fire Department, stop, drop and roll and exit drills; Warsaw Police Department, bike and helmet safety; and the Mental Health Association, stranger danger.
The annual safety fest is hosted and coordinated by the Kosciusko County Safe Kids Campaign.
