The Franklin I. and Irene List Saemann Foundation donated nearly $500,000 this year to local organizations.

The Kosciusko Literacy Volunteers of America received $2,200 from the Saemann Foundation to buy books for new mothers.

According to the KLVA, "It is our hope that, by starting with the beginning of life, we can help to instill a love for reading into children."

The books, available in Spanish and English, have hard covers, fit into a small child's hands and have wipeable covers and pages.

Other grant recipients include: Cardinal Center Inc., Combined Community Services Inc., the Etna Green Redevelopment Task Force, the Goshen Public Library, the Health Care Foundation of Kosciusko County, Heartline Pregnancy Center Inc., the Kosciusko Community Hospital Foundation, the Kosciusko County Historical Society, the Kosciusko Community YMCA, Kosciusko Community Senior Services, Milford Area Development, the North Webster Library, the Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation, the Beaman Home, United Way of Kosciusko County, and the Warsaw Community Public Library.

The KCH Foundation will purchase 42 recliner chairs to help patients recuperate more quickly, the Kosciusko Community Senior Services will have help buying a van to provide transportation for seniors, and the Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation will be able to continue its Music in the Park program.

Frank Saemann, who founded the Orthopedic Equipment Company, and his wife, Irene, were longtime residents of Warsaw.
