Sacred Heart Celebrates Academics

Posted

On May 26, sixth-grade students, along with their family and friends, had a wonderful graduation ceremony with awards. At 7 p.m., a Mass took place in Sacred Heart Church for the sixth-grade graduating class of 2010. Following the Mass, 42 award categories were presented to the 18 members of the graduating class. One of the awards presented was in memory of 2nd Lt. Michael Grant O'Connell. O'Connell was killed in action during active duty in 1969 in Vietnam. Every year for more than 30 years, two students at Sacred Heart School are awarded the O'Connell Award in his honor. The award is presented to students who have Christian-like attitudes, high academic scores and participate in sports/activities. The winners of this year's awards were Courtney Steffensmeier and Brendan Sullivan. After all of the awards were presented, a reception and slideshow presentation took place in the school's gym.
