Sacred Heart Breaks Ground On Additions

Bishop John D'Arcy gave a prayer and a blessing at Sacred Heart School during a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday.

The Warsaw Catholic school celebrated its 50th anniversary, with the groundbreaking ceremony to top it off. Along with the groundbreaking, the school celebrated the milestone with an open house and a Mass by D'Arcy at 11 a.m. The Mass overflowed with community, parishioners and alumni.

According to Sacred Heart School Principal Mary Ann Irwin, the school is adding on four more classrooms. "We're moderately growing so that's a good thing," she said. Currently, the school has 197 students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

Bill Lamie, with Architecture Design Group, South Bend, said about 4,000 square feet will be added on to the west side of the school. The "big plus" will be the creation of a computer center at the school.

In addition to the work on the school, room for an additional 200 seats will be added to the church. There also will be a meditative chapel built.

Work on the design currently is being done, Lamie said. Construction "likely will commence in the spring."
