Sacred Heart 4th-Grade Students Visit State Museum

Posted

The fourth-grade students from Sacred Heart School visited the Indiana State Museum Dec. 11 as part of the Statehood Day celebration. Along with touring the museum, the students listened to First Lady Karen Pence and Judge Nancy Vaidik of the Indiana Court of Appeals. To prepare for the day, the students wrote essays on a Hoosier hero as part of a statewide contest sponsored by the Indiana State House Tour Office, Indiana Center for the Book and the Indiana State Library. Skylar Ashcraft won second place in this contest with her essay on Ryan White, the 13-year-old boy who showed courage in his battle with AIDS and his fight to attend school. Ashcraft had the opportunity to read her essay to fourth-graders from around the state. Ashcraft received a certificate from Joanna E. Hahn, manager of school programs at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, and a College Choice 529 Bond from Pence. Pictured are Ashcraft and Hahn.
