HILLSDALE, Mich. - Ruth A. Winterhalter, 69, of Hillsdale, Mich., went to be with the Lord Dec. 25, 2007, at her home in North Webster.
She was born Dec. 22, 1938, in Blissfield, Mich., to Floyd and Imogene Harroun Kuhl. On June 10, 1961, she married the Rev. Frank Winterhalter, who preceded her in death Jan. 9, 2006.
She was a 1957 graduate of Blissfield High, received her bachelor's degree from Huntington University and her master's degree from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne. She was a school teacher in Hillsdale, Fort Wayne and Chicago for 35 years. In 1972, she was selected for The Addition of Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. She and her husband most recently ministered at the United Brethren Church, the Free Methodist Church and Michindo Ministries in Hillsdale. They also were longtime ministers at Union Chapel United Brethren Church, Fort Wayne.
Surviving are a sister, Marie (and spouse Mitch) Budzon, Warsaw; a brother, J.W. Kuhl, Toledo; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Kuhl, Adrian, and Sue Kuhl, Toledo; a brother-in-law, Thomas (and spouse Susan) Winterhalter, Toledo; a foster son, Mark (and spouse Nita) Matuska, Fort Wayne; a foster grandson, Landon; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, John Kuhl; and a foster daughter, Jeanette Franklin.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church with Pastors Keith Porter, Sheldon Lang and Doug Sarber officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, Ohio.
