SYRACUSE - Ruth Wilcox, 86, Syracuse, died March 5, 2011, in Lakeland Rehabilitation, Milford.
She was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Defiance, Ohio, to Benjamin and Goldie Butler Blue. On July 20, 1944, she married Fred Wilcox, who preceded her in death on March 16, 1982.
She moved to Syracuse in 1969, coming from the Ohio area. She was a homemaker, and also worked for Syracuse Enterprises and the Image Group, Syracuse. She participated in the Bell Choir at Lakeland Rehabilitation, and was active in the VFW and American Legion, Syracuse. She was an avid golfer, belonging to South Shore Golf Club. She was a big Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan and rooted for the 24 car of Jeff Gordon in NASCAR racing. She also enjoyed ice fishing with her husband, Fred, on Lake Wawasee.
Surviving are a daughter, Sue (and spouse Terry) Jodry, Milford; a son, Fred (and spouse Joann) Wilcox, Bellview, Wash.; four grandchildren: Holly (and spouse Todd) Sautter, Leesburg; Amy (and spouse Ben) Coalson, Lagrange; John (and spouse Krissy) Wilcox, Washington; and Shelly (and spouse David) Taylor, Washington; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Brown, Continental, Ohio; and a brother, Roger Blue, Michigan. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
