NAPPANEE – Ruth U. Romin, 84, of Heritage House, Nappanee, died of natural causes at 2:15 a.m. April 30, 2012, in her residence.
She was born May 15, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., to Carl Axel and Gertrude Ling Anderson. On Oct. 4, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., she married Alvin Romin Jr., who died June 1, 1994.
She moved to Nappanee from Oak Lawn, Ill., in 1989. She was the secretary at Harold L. Richards High School, Oak Lawn, for many years and for Rock Island Railroad. She attended Nappanee Missionary Church, where she was active in the Women’s Bible study and helped with the grief share program. She was a longtime member of Elim Evangelical Free Church, Oak Lawn, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Society. She was also an active member of the 16 Corp the Salvation Army in Chicago.
Surviving are two daughters, Karyn Ruth (and spouse Myron) Bloom, Marathon, Iowa, and Donna Jean (Don) Rohrer, Nappanee; a son, Paul Alvin (and spouse Marian Jean) Romin, Naperville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Lundin, Kissimmee, Fla. She also was preceded in death by four brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nappanee Missionary Church officiated by ministers of the church. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Syracuse, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. ***** Memorials may be made to Nappanee Missionary Church or the Salvation Army.
