Ruth Eleanor Gay, 92, Roanoke, died at 2:40 a.m. Nov. 27, 2008, at Norwood Nursing Center, Huntington.

She was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Gravelton, to James and Anna Pearl Stuckman. She married Marshall E. Gay, who preceded her in death.

She was formerly of Milford and a telephone operator in Milford and LaGrange. She was a member of Victory Christian Center in Fort Myers, Fla., Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Daughters of the American Revolution and a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Sylvia (and spouse Albert) Gibson, Fort Myers; Carolann (and spouse Dave) Sherbahn, Roanoke; two sisters, three brothers, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, grandson, two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Milford, with Pastor Marvin Grooms officiating. Burial will be at Milford Cemetery.

Calling is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
