MURPHYSBORO, Ill. – Russell E. Breading, 78, died at 1:05 p.m. April 25, 2013.
He was born June 14, 1934, in Warsaw, to Floyd and Lula Morgan Breading. On Feb. 4, 1956, in Warsaw, he married Lois A. Franks, who died Dec. 25, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy after the Korean War and was stationed in the Philippines for three years.
He moved to Murphysboro in 1965, where he began selling shoes at then Famous Shoe Store. He bought the store, which became Breading’s Shoes, which served Southern Illinois for 46 years until the doors closed Dec. 31, 2012.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, Murphysboro; Rotary Club; Elks Lodge; and Chamber of Commerce of Murphysboro. He served as grand marshal of the Apple Festival Parade in 2008 and was inducted into the Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame.
Surviving are four daughters: Lee Ann Breading (and Rick Moore), Denton, Texas; Amy (and spouse Michael)  Dolfay, Cypress, Texas; Lisa (and spouse Kevin) Nelson, Wake Forest, N.C.; and Kristin (and spouse Michael) Boston, Washington; nine grandchildren; and special friend, Charlene Zieba, Carbondale.
Services were Monday at United Methodist Church,  Murphysboro, with the Revs. Earl Renshaw and Larry Gilbert officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military rites by members of American Legion Post 127 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190, both of Murphysboro, and Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69.
Crawshaw Funeral Home, Murphysboro, was in charge of arrangements.
