Ruby Landrum, 103, of Winona Lake, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 6:10 p.m. Oct. 2, 2013, surrounded by family in the Winona Lake home she shared with her family on Sunday Lane.
She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Minden, Neb., to Frank and Hannah Nielsen Larson. While at Bible Institute of Los Angeles, she met Clyde K. Landrum from Lost Creek, Ky., and upon Clyde’s graduation in 1936, with an advanced teaching degree from Morehead State University, they were married at the Landrum family home in Lost Creek. He preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1998.
She graduated with honors from Ripon Union High School in 1928. She graduated with a degree in biblical studies from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA) in 1930. In 1932, she received her R.N. nursing degree from Los Angeles School of Nursing.
She moved from Minden to Ripon, Calif., where she grew up. She was a life-long registered nurse having worked at hospitals in Jackson and Louisville, Ky.; Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw; Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.; and Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, where she retired in 1990 at the age of 80. She worked for two more years at Grace College in the nurse’s office helping students, and finally retired formally at the age of 82 in 1992.
She was a member of Community Grace Brethren Church, Winona Lake. She loved serving as a full-time pastor’s wife with Clyde. They were founding pastors at Leesburg, Warsaw Community and Lexington, Ky. Grace Brethren churches and pastored Brethren churches in Uniontown, Pa. and Lost Creek. They were instrumental in the founding of their beloved Warsaw Christian School. She was an accomplished gardener and seamstress and dedicated matriarch to her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Phil Ray (and spouse Lois Kay Nagel) Landrum, Wheaton, Ill., and Gerald Richard “Jerry” (and spouse Kathleen Marie Miller) Landrum, Winona Lake; five grandchildren: Anita Kay (and spouse Matthew) Witt, Val Ann (and spouse Christopher) Harder, Elizabeth Landrum, Timothy (and spouse Julie Anna) Landrum and Rachel Landrum; three great-grandchildren, Mei Ling Witt, Aaron Witt and Amelia Landrum.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Chris and George, and one sister, Laura.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Community Grace Brethren Church, 909 S. Buffalo, Warsaw, with Rev. Andy Galvin and Rev. Roy Chapin, Community Grace Brethren, officiating. A private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is entrusted with arrangements.
