COLUMBUS – Ruby Evelyn Paul, 91, passed away peacefully May 13, 2014.
She was born May 4, 1923, in Pleasureville, Ky., to Homer and Daisy Hall. In 1943 she married Eugene E. Paul, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, who died in 1998.
Having been raised on a large farm, she experienced such joys as taking a pony and cart to school in the mornings. Upon graduating from high school as valedictorian, she enrolled in the Bryant and Stratton Business College in Louisville and thereafter accepted a secretarial job with the Jeffersonville Boat and Machine Company.
A few years after her marriage, she and Gene moved to Columbus where he had a long career with Cummins Engine Co., and she thoroughly loved being a wife, homemaker and mother raising her three children. She was very dedicated as a hospital volunteer and active member of the First Baptist Church. In later life, she spent many happy years in Leesburg while Gene presided as president of Dalton Foundries, and winter months in Sea Island, Ga.
Her hobbies and talents were vast. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, piano, embroidery, golf, bridge and fishing. Family members arriving at her home for July 4th festivities would often find her at the end of the dock, sitting on a bench with her fishing pole in the water. She had a real zest for life.
Travels around world with her husband of 57 years were a big part of her “old stories” to share. Reflective of her creativity, she graced the family with seasonal poems and spent one year writing a memoir booklet filled with photos and memories for each member of the family. It is cherished by all!
She is survived by her three children: Margaret “Peggy” (and spouse John) Baker, Zionsville; Dr. William E. Paul, Niles, Mich.; Dr. Charles D. (and spouse Diana) Paul, Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren: J.R. (and spouse Amy) Hogan, Paige (and spouse Mark) Treptow, Eric, Abigail, James, Chase, Sierra and Joseph Paul; Lori (and spouse Charlie) Taylor; Kelly (and spouse Matthew) Williams; eight great-grandchildren; Bailey, Evan and Ella Hogan; Ava and Carson Treptow; Joe and Mac Taylor; and Annie Jean Williams. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Swindler and Kenneth Hall. Her family and friends will miss her grand smile and remarkable ability to enjoy every day of her life.
In keeping with her wishes, a private family service will be held in Columbus Saturday. The family would like to thank The Stratford for her loving care.
Hathaway-Myers Chapel, Columbus, is in charge of arrangements.
