NORTH MANCHESTER - Ruby Catharine Moore, 98, North Manchester, and formerly of Warsaw, died at 1:07 a.m. Jan. 1, 2009, at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born April 15, 1910, in LaPlace, Ill., to Frank and Dollie Bahney Wolfe. On May 3, 1941, she married Wesley Moore who died Feb. 15, 2006.

She grew up in Florida, North Manchester and Goshen. She graduated from Goshen High School in 1928 and International Business College, Fort Wayne, and attended Manchester College, Fort Wayne, and Manchester College for her teaching certificate. She was an elementary school teacher in Laketon, during the 1930s. She and her husband lived in Michigan for a number of years, where she was a foster parent, 4-H leader, member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and actively involved in the Methodist Church and Church of the Brethren. In 1960 she and her husband moved to the Warsaw area where they owned and operated Moore's Pizza, Warsaw, until retirement in 1975. She was a member of North Winona Church of the Brethren and was involved with the local Farm Bureau chapter. Her greatest loves were her faith, her family, her pets and the world of nature. She was an accomplished piano player and especially enjoyed playing and singing church hymns. Her cooking was legendary along with her gardening, caring for her fruit trees and canning the produce she grew. She was an avid bird watcher and observer of wild flowers. She loved caring for her animal friends, both large and small.

Surviving are two sons, Stanley (and spouse Dee) Moore, North Manchester; and Duane (and spouse Diane) Moore, Muncie; and five grandchildren: Liza Moore, East Lansing, Mich.; Jacob Moore (and fiance Alyssa Anglin), Loveland, Colo.; Eric Moore (and fiance Emily Buckwalter), Tempe, Ariz.; and Ryan and Lori Moore, both of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emerson and Russell Wolfe.

Services were Saturday at Peabody Chapel, North Manchester, with the Rev. Sue Babovec officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.

McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
