Roy Herbert 'Herb' Bowling

COLUMBUS, Ind. - Roy Herbert "Herb" Bowling, 85, of Reeveston Drive, Columbus, died at 9:15 a.m. June 30, 2010, in Columbus Regional Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1924, in Carter County, Ky., to John Will and Rebecca Sloan Bowling. On June 12, 1943, he married Betty Williams Bowling, who survives.

He had recently moved to Columbus from Warsaw where he and his wife resided for 30 years. He was a retired foundry supervisor and manager and spent many years working at Explorer Van Co. He was a hard-working man who often worked two and three jobs to support his family. He worked until the age of 80. He was a good and Godly man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He left a great legacy for his family to follow. He was a friend to many. He attended Flintwood Wesleyan Church and had been a member of Marion First Church of the Nazarene for more than 50 years.

Also surviving are a son, Ed (and spouse Patty) Bowling, High Point, N.C.; three daughters: Sondra (and spouse Jim) McKeever, Logansport; Linda (and spouse Greg) Lyle, Paris, Ky.; and Teri (and spouse Wes) Jones, Columbus; nine grandchildren: Amy (and spouse Barrie) Baker, Paris, Ky.; Eric (and spouse Jennifer) Duncan, Lexington, Ky.; Scot (and spouse Lisa) Lindsey, Powell, Ohio; Amanda (and spouse Tony) Zurwell, Greenfield; Nathan, Nick and Maddie Bowling, High Point, N.C.; and Taylor and Christopher Jones, Columbus; and nine great-grandchildren: Blake and Hayden Baker; Alex, Mason and Miller Duncan; Parker Jordan and Lauren Lindsey; and Grayson Zurwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Jim, Mark and Kim Bowling; and a great-grandson, Brandon Scot Harvey.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Flintwood Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., Columbus, is in charge of arrangements.
