SYRACUSE - Rowena K. Brewer, 97, of Syracuse, died at 11:50 p.m. Sept. 8, 2010, in Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare, Milford.

She was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Syracuse, to Esten Samuel and Blanche O. Strieby Kline. On Sept. 28, 1940, in Kendallville, she married Paul D. Brewer, who died March 16, 1988.

She graduated from Syracuse High School in 1931. She lived in Indianapolis until 1952, when her family moved to Dewart Lake. She was a homemaker and retired in 1983 from Syracuse Rubber Co. after 16 years of service. She co-owned and operated the Dewart Lake Inn in the 1950s and she formerly worked at G.E., Fort Wayne, and the Milford Chair Factory. After retirement she worked part time for Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, for four years as a greeter.

She attended Syracuse Baptist Church, formerly Zion Chapel, and was a former member of the Goodwill Home Economics Club, Syracuse; American Legion Post 223 Auxiliary, Syracuse; and Order of the Eastern Star, Indianapolis.

Surviving is a son, Reece Alan Brewer, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Merv Swarzentruber officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
