Aaron Rovenstine is seeking the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s seat in the May primary.
Current Sheriff Rocky Goshert is not seeking re-election.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, Rovenstine, Atwood, is a 1978 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and a 1982 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in criminal justice.
Rovenstine, a Republican, will be starting his 30th year in local law enforcement: 24 with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and six years with the Milford Police Department.
He served two terms as sheriff of Kosciusko County from 1999 through 2006 and for the last seven years has served as Goshert’s captain (chief deputy). In 2005, Rovenstine was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels to serve on the Indiana Enforcement Training Board which oversees the training of all law enforcement in Indiana.
Rovenstine is active in the community and the Republican party. He is a former board member of the United Way of Kosciusko County, served on the Kosciusko Community Foundation Vision Council and 12 years on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day committee. He is currently on the Atwood Community Building Board and is involved with the Kosciusko County Basketball Hall of Fame.
Rovenstine has served more than 20 years as a precinct committeeman for Harrison Township and served two terms as Republican county chairman. He is also a member of the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club.
“It is my desire to use my experience and understanding of our community to serve the people of Kosciusko County as sheriff,” Rovenstine said in his candidacy announcement. “It’s been an honor to work with the great men and women that serve and have served in emergency services over the years. I hope over the years we have earned their trust and more importantly that we have earned the trust of the citizens of Kosciusko County.”
Rovenstine, 54, has been married to his wife, Robin (Auer), for 27 years. They have two sons, Cassius Austin, a graduate of Wabash College and Valparaiso School of Law and just recently passed the Indiana Bar exam. Son Caleb is completing his senior year at Grace College and is a member of the school’s golf team. Both were Tippecanoe Valley High School graduates.
