WABASH - Austin Rovenstine received a $1,500-per-year scholarship at Wabash College.
Rovenstine was awarded the Albert M. Gavit Scholarship beginning with the 2007-08 academic year.
The Gavit Scholarship was established in 1986 by Ann Gavit in memory of her husband, who was a member of the Class of 1947. He was active in Sphinx Club, Sigma Chi, W-Men's Club, Pi Delta Epsilon, Board of Publications and Phi Beta Kappa. He was sports editor of The Bachelor and played baseball and basketball, and was Phi Beta Kappa. He was a prominent attorney in Indianapolis and served as Dean of the Indiana University Law School.
His father and brother also were Wabash graduates.
The scholarship is awarded by nomination by faculty to a sophomore whose freshman work shows great potential for original and creative work in the humanities. It was important to Gavit that the recipient show, through some work product, that he has "creativity beyond the ordinary."
Austin and his parents will be invited to the annual Celebrating Scholarships Luncheon March 29.
Austin is the son of Aaron and Robin Rovenstine, Atwood.
