Roundup Led By Alexander's NLC Tennis Finish

The final round of the Northern Lakes Conference Girls Tennis Championships was wrapped up at Warsaw’s Tennis & Fitness Club, Saturday.
Locally, the top finisher was Warsaw senior Rachel Alexander, who finished second at No. 3 singles, losing to Plymouth’s Jessica Stillson in the championship match.
After going through the NLC regular season undefeated, the Elkhart Memorial Lady Crimson Chargers also had champions on three of the five courts in the tournament.
From Memorial, Krystal Grubb was the No. 1 singles champion, Corinn Whitaker won at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Taelor Gross and Haley Stouder were also champions.
From Warsaw, senior Sarah Boyle also finished third at No. 2 singles, defeating Goshen’s Kathleen Morrical 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in the third-place match.
Sectionals begin this week at Warsaw, with the draw taking place today.

Saturday in New Carlisle
The Triton girls tennis team finished third at the Northern State Conference Championships, wrapping up Saturday at New Prairie. Bremen won the tournament with 51 points, followed by New Prairie (39) and Triton (34), wrapping up the top three. Triton’s No. 1 doubles team of Holly Stogsdill and Carrie Slabaugh were crowned NSC champions, while Kaelyn Mason and Kylie Mason finished second at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. Sectionals are up next for Triton, as it travels to Bremen. Sectional draw is today.

In Northern Lakes Conference action Saturday afternoon, the Warsaw baseball team was dealt a 5-1 loss at NorthWood. Warsaw’s Caleb Heckaman went 3 for 4 in the loss, while Justin Oberlin and Sterling Hay each had two hits. The Tigers host Concord today in another NLC contest.

At Saturday’s Culver Military Academy Invitational, the Tippecanoe Valley baseball team lost a pair of one-run games. In the opener, Mooresville defeated Valley 3-2, then the Vikings fell 7-6 in eight innings to host CMA. The 12-11 Vikings host a Three Rivers Conference game against Rochester today.

At Culver’s Mystic Hills Golf Club Saturday, the Warsaw boys golf team finished third with a 322. Mishawaka Marian won the Culver Military Academy Invitational with a 317 on the par-71 course, while Harrison was second with a 321, followed by Warsaw. Triton shot a 335, which was good for seventh, and Wawasee came in with a 340, finishing ninth. In a bit of a twist, the invitational scores the best four scores per hole, instead of determining team scores by the four lowest scores on the team. Warsaw and Wawasee are both in Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday, as Warsaw takes on Concord and Goshen at Maplecrest and Wawasee faces Plymouth and NorthWood at McCormick Creek.

The Warsaw softball team went 0-2 at its Tiger Tourney Saturday, falling 12-5 to Peru, then 10-6 against Fort Wayne Concordia. Against Peru, the Lady Tigers pounded out 10 hits, led by Sidney Hernandez's four, but they also committed five errors. In the second game, the Warsaw bats were quiet, getting just four hits. The 6-14 Lady Tigers travel to Concord today for a Northern Lakes Conference contest, and a preview of their May 26 sectional game.
