BOURBON - Monday's Triton School Board meeting was Superintendent Rex Roth's final meeting as superintendent, when he announced he would be working as a greeter for Wal-Mart.
"Well, a lot of people ask me what I'm going to do with my time," Roth said just before he disappeared to put on his blue Wal-Mart smock. "I get a lot of calls from Wal-Mart."
After the laughter subsided, Roth said: "This really is a joke ... I think."
School board members presented Roth with a wooden rocking chair engraved with:
"Rex R. Roth, Superintendent
Triton School Corporation
July 1, 1988, to June 30, 2001"
"I believe we have a very good school corporation," Roth said. "It's been a nice opportunity to work with this corporation including these guys up here (board members) and the girls in this office (administration office.) I really have enjoyed working in the corporation. I wish you the best of luck as a school corporation and individuals," Roth said.
"It's a pleasure to work with someone who has everything in line in terms of the board and corporation," board president Steve Blackford said. "I think we have a real leader here in Rex."
Roth is retiring after 13 years with the school corporation.
Triton Junior-Senior High School Principal Ted Chittum will replace Roth and Triton Junior-Senior High School Assistant Principal Glenn Weidner will replace Chittum.
