Rotary Raises $40K For Salvation Army

Posted

The Warsaw Rotary Club met Dec. 20 and announced that $30,000 had been collected for Rotary Salvation Army Day. Donations continued to come in and the final total came to $40,000 to support Angel Tree and the services of The Salvation Army provided to those in need throughout the year in Kosciusko County. This was the 54th annual event, which started in 1965 when member N. Bruce Howe wanted to honor Brigadier Brice Phillipson, calling it "Brice's Day.” A little under $1,000 was gathered that first Christmas season. Since that time, monies have been collected each year with John R. Hall serving as co-chairman. Currently, Alan Alderfer and Envoy Ken Locke serve as co-chairs of this event. "We thank everyone for their support of this fund raiser each year that helps so many people in Warsaw and Kosciusko County,"  said Alderfer during the event. Rotary President Justin Taylor presented the monies to The Salvation Army and thanked everyone for attending. "We also thank everyone for their support of Rotary Toy Day on December 6th in Downtown Warsaw that collected gifts for Angel Tree," Taylor said.
