ELKHART – Ross E. Devitt, 85, died Dec. 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 27, 1925. His wife, Nancy, survives in Warsaw.
He was a 1944 graduate of Tolleston High School, Gary, and attended Valparaiso University on a basketball scholarship. He was a fast-pitch pitcher in the American Softball Association for 43 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. His greatest loves were sports, golf and karaoke, where he was known as “The Crooner.” He loved his family, but most of all his loving wife of 40 years.
Also surviving are five sons: Pat (and spouse Hazel), Valparaiso; Tim (and spouse Diane), Griffith; Bryon (and spouse Julie) Anderson, Hebron; Glen (and spouse Sue), Anderson; and Tommy (and spouse Vicki) Dallas, Texas; four daughters: Linda (and spouse Frank) Glinnis, Dallas; Karen (and spouse William) Kann, Leesburg; Linda (and spouse Roger) Thibault, Palm Coast, Fla.; and Terry (and spouse Mike) Powers, Warsaw; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Kevin and C.J. Devitt.
No services are planned.
Elkhart Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
