Ronald Keith “Coach Hutch” Hutcherson, 78, Warsaw, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Oct. 7, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Ron was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Bloomington, the son of Albert and Geneva Hutcherson.

Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann Dyer Hutcherson; son Ronald “Scott” (Melanie) Hutcherson; daughter Kari Ann Hutcherson; brothers Jerry, Denny and Jeff “Buddy”; sisters Jeanie Campbell and Debbie Duncan; and three grandchildren (Scott and Melanie’s children): Kayla Lee, Danielle Nicole and Jacob Keith.

Ron graduated from Indiana University with a health and P.E. bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in secondary education, and served four years in the Navy Reserves. Ron taught and coached many students and athletes throughout his career, starting in Lebanon, then to Skokie, Ill., and finishing in Warsaw. He taught for 54 years, with the last 14 at Sacred Heart.

Ron was mostly known as a teacher and coach; however, he had many of his own personal accomplishments. In 1957, he won the Indiana state wrestling tournament as a junior in high school and finished runner-up his senior year. Ron was also a Big Ten wrestling champion while at Indiana University and was ranked in the nation in the 65-plus age group in raquetball.

Ron coached several wrestlers who became wrestling state champions and led multiple teams to success at Indiana state wrestling tournaments. His love for the students he taught and the athletes he coached was limitless.

A celebration of life service led by Pastor Denny Wilson will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Warsaw Community Church. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.

Visitation will be after the service until 6 p.m.
