Ronald Jay La Rue

Ronald Jay La Rue, 80, of 1206 Biblers Ave., Winona Lake, died at 6:17 a.m. Aug. 23, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born July 15, 1931, in Ashland, Ohio, to Carey J. and Maple America Edwards La Rue. On Aug. 14, 1954, in Ashland, Ohio, he married Carole Jane Roby, who survives.

He graduated in 1949 from Ashland High School,  attended Ashland University for a year and Grace College, Winona Lake, for a year. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. A resident of Kosciusko County for the past 43 years, he worked as a glazer for Glass Service, Warsaw,  installing glass from 1969-96. He then worked at Midwest Rake Co., Warsaw, and was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife; three daughters: Sandra (and spouse Barry) Long, Leesburg; Susan (and spouse Joe) Schmitt, Syracuse; and Melinda (and spouse Charles) Sheetz, Claypool; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Long; Kari (and spouse Kyle) Thompson; Ashley Sheetz; Joe, Danielle, Jordan, Brandy and Bill Schmitt; and five great-grandchildren: Rylee Thompson and McKenzie, Kylie, Landon and  Mason Schmitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren, Kevin and Lindsay Long.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway with Pastors Bruce Barlow and John Teevan officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard.  

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
