G. Luke Rodriguez is announcing his candidacy for county auditor.

He joins Marsha McSherry and Marie Sarber who also will seek the nomination for auditor on the Republican party's primary ballot

Rodriguez, 28, grew up in North Webster where he currently lives with his wife, Tracee, and two children.

This will be Rodriguez' first run at public office. With a background in accounting, supervisory and customer service, he says he enjoys working with people.

"I am customer service-minded and believe, from a supervisor's perspective, that attitude reflects leadership. This attitude also reflects on how your employees handle each citizen's need."

Rodriguez tutors students in mathematics in his spare time. He also is a member of the Young Republicans club. The family attends Warsaw Community Church where he volunteers with Sonlight Children's Ministries.

"I look forward to running for Kosciusko County auditor and the experience I will receive in the next year. I look forward to meeting people and plan to go from business to business and introduce myself."

Rodriguez is employed by Newmar in Nappanee. He also has worked at Fairmont Homes in Nappanee and for the Lear Corporation in Bourbon.

"Everyone goes into a new job and learns something," he said of being a public officeholder. "I won't know everything the first day, but I'll do what's expected of me."

Rodriguez has nearly two years of secondary education. He has attended Ancilla College and Ivy Tech State College in Warsaw. He is a 1996 graduate of Grace Baptist Christian School in Plymouth. His goal is to pursue a bachelor's degree in business management.

Relevant to the auditor's position are completed courses in computer administration, macro economics, small group communication and accounting.

If elected auditor, Rodriguez said he would strengthen communication between the treasurer's, assessor's and recorder's offices.

"I will continue the well-established customer service policy. I also will continue to further my employees' education in all aspects of the auditor's office.

"I would also like to further work on and improve the implemented office systems that give community members easier access to public records and information that is important to them."
