The most revived Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “Carousel,” is back at the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts after 14 years.
A production of the Broadway musical was last performed on the stage in 2012.
According to the Wagon Wheel website, “With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, ‘Carousel’ is a timeless American musical that tells a story of love, loss and redemption. It follows the passionate and complicated relationship between Billy Bigelow (played by Avery Nienhuis) and Julie Jordan (played by Cora Kendall), exploring themes of forgiveness, hope, and the power of second chances. Featuring classic songs such as ‘If I Loved You’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ ‘Carousel’ combines soaring music, heartfelt storytelling, and unforgettable characters that have moved audiences for generations.”
The show, based on Ferenc Molnar’s play “Liliom,” started Thursday, June 18 and runs through June 27.
Directing “Carousel” for the Wagon Wheel is David Schlumpf.
