INDIANAPOLIS – Rod Lee Bradway, 41, Indianapolis, was called home to be with the Lord Sept. 20, 2013, in Indianapolis.
He was born to Thomas and Shari Ann Bradway, who survive. He was married to his loving wife, Jamie, who also survives.
Beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and friend, he loved his wife and children with all of his heart, and was an amazing husband and father.
He died doing what he loved, serving the citizens of Indianapolis. He never thought of himself as a hero, he was grateful to be doing something that he loved. He was a public servant who demonstrated courage, bravery, compassion, honor and integrity throughout his life. He came from a family with a strong public safety background. He started his career at Wayne Township Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT for 10 years before joining IMPD in 2007. As well as being an IMPD officer, he was actively involved in animal rescue groups, the Boy Scouts, Decatur Central Marching Band and IHSAA soccer and basketball officiating. He loved SCUBA diving and playing with his four dogs.
Also surviving are a son, Jonathan Bradway; a daughter, Sierra Bradway; a brother, Chip (and spouse Shelley) Bradway; father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Teresa Gentry; a sister-in-law, Jaclyn (and spouse Donald) Gentry; two nieces, Ella Bradway and Kaylee Millard; and one nephew, Conner Millard; a host of other relatives, friends, his Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department family and Wayne Township Fire Department family.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
