Rock 'N' Roll Band To Perform Tonight At Central Park

Posted

Rock 'n' roll music will resonate throughout Central Park tonight.

The Bel Airs, a five-member 1950s rock 'n' roll band from Fort Wayne, will perform tonight at Central Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public and is part of the Warsaw Parks Departments summer concert series in the park.

The band performs songs from 1950s artists such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and Carl Perkins.

"Our performance is for people of all ages who enjoy danceable music," said singer and rhythm guitarist Tim Andersen.

Andersen started the band 23 years ago with his brothers Dan and Joe. The two brothers are no longer members of the band, but Tim has continued performing in the band.

Other band members include Tod Ramsey - "Sticks Bel Air" on drums, John Secher - "J.J. Bel Air" on accordion, sound and light, George Ogg - "Jake Bel Air" on vocals and guitar and Brad Kinsey - "Rocky Bel Air" on bass.

The band has opened for musicians such as Bo Diddley and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.

Andersen said the band used to perform at The Frog, Syracuse, and has played at Central Park for the summer concert series for the past five years.

"We like to perform for the folks in Warsaw and think it is such a nice outdoor setting," Andersen said.

Ogg, who has been with the band for 10 years, also said he is looking forward to performing in Warsaw.

"We encourage those who attend to swing dance and have fun," Ogg said.

"We like to have fun and humor and interact with the audience."

Ramsey, who also has been with the band 10 years, said he is looking forward to the concert.

Ramsey formerly was the drummer for Tennessee Ernie Ford.

"We look forward to the concert every time we play because there always is a fun crowd to entertain in Warsaw," Ramsey said.

If rain occurs, the concert will be held at Lakeview Middle School Auditorium.

If people want to check where the concert will be, they may call the activities hotline after hours at 574-372-9554, Ext. 300.
