ROCHESTER - A Rochester woman is dead and a man is in custody for murder after a Monday morning incident at Arbor Woods Apartments.
Stephanie Oberg, of 504 Mitchell St, Rochester, was found dead in her apartment Monday morning. Officials from the Rochester Police Department believe she was killed between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Monday in the residence.After an investigation by the Rochester Police Department, the Indiana State Police, Fulton County Sheriff's Department, the Fulton County Prosecutor's Office and the Fulton County Coroner, Keith O. Kochenderfer was arrested in Three Rivers, Mich., Tuesday morning.
The investigation into Oberg's death revealed that someone she previously had worked with was at her apartment in the early morning hours Monday, and allegedly left the apartment in a large white car shortly after the murder.
According to information released by the Fulton County Prosecutor's Office, Kochenderfer worked with Oberg in the past and was at the truck stop in Rochester early Monday morning. He also sought treatment for a number of cuts to both of his hands, one of which was considered severe.
At 12:34 a.m. Tuesday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Wayne Steele signed a search warrant for Kochenderfer's residence on Ewing Road in Rochester.
According to a press release from the Fulton County Prosecutor's Office, police entered the residence and discovered "a significant amount of blood" on the floor. The blood "appeared to have come from a person entering the residence while bleeding."
After finishing the search, a warrant was issued for Kochenderfer's arrest. His vehicle was taken into custody, and a search was conducted Tuesday.
Officers also interviewed Kochenderfer, but no details of that interview have been released.
Kochenderfer will be returned to Fulton County, and charges will be filed as early as today.
