ROCHESTER – Indiana conservation officers are investigating the death of a Rochester man after a day of hunting on private property in Fulton County.
Kenneth Moore, 28, Rochester, was shot and killed from a single gunshot wound to the head. Moore was hunting with three other friends near North CR 400W and West CR 250N, about four miles northwest of downtown Rochester, including a 12-year-old and two adults. Moore was participating in the Indiana youth deer hunting season.
During the day, the group split into two groups. Around 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Moore and the 12-year-old were walking along a cornfield when an adult shooter from the other group shot Moore.
Moore was loaded into a privately owned vehicle destined for a hospital. An ambulance met the vehicle and then took Moore to Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, where he was pronounced dead.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources used a canine to search through the field for evidence that could be linked to the death of Moore.
Police say the unidentified adult shooter broke state law by being armed and could consequently face charges.
Moore was a seven-year veteran of the U.S. Marines. He spent eight months in Iraq in 2006-2007. Moore was born in Plymouth, and lived in Rochester. Moore left behind a girlfriend and a son, according to his obituary that appears in today’s newspaper.
Moore’s funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
