Posted
A Rochester man was arrested early Friday morning by the Mentone Police Department for possession of marijuana more than 30 grams.
William F. Enyart III, 26, of 1015 Franklin St., Rochester, was arrested and preliminarily charged with class D felony for possession of marijuana in the amount exceeding 30 grams.
Mentone Officer Terry S. Engstrand came in contact with Enyart after assisting the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies involving a possible shooting at Westhaven Estates, 3762 W. Old 30, Warsaw.
In the incident at Westhaven Estates, officers responded to lot 686 for possible shots fired. Officers were then directed to a secondary mobile home where a female victim had fled from Joseph Hettinger, 33. Hettinger was the individual who allegedly discharged the firearm three times in an unknown direction.
The victim and Hettinger were found to be bleeding and have minor injuries resulting from an earlier domestic dispute. Hettinger was arrested on preliminary charges of felony domestic battery and two counts of felony intimidation with a deadly weapon.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. Friday, Engstrand observed a suspicious vehicle traveling from the area of the shooting and suspected it may have been connected to the shooting. Enyart was the driving 2004 black Chevy Silverado pickup truck registered to a third-party person.
The officer made contact with Enyart and noticed several criminal indicators and the strong odor of raw marijuana coming from Enyart. The officer made contact with K-9 Officer Joe Bumbaugh from the Winona Lake Police Department.  A short time later, Bumbaugh and his and partner Bron arrived on scene.
Bron is trained and certified in detecting concealed illegal narcotics. Bron indicated illegal narcotics in the Chevy pickup truck that had been driven by Enyart. Officers then located more than 3 pounds of raw marijuana inside of pickup truck concealed in a plastic bag.
Enyart was booked and lodged at the Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
The Kosciusko County Drug Enforcement team is assisting with the case and further arrest may result from a further investigation.
The Mentone Police Department is asking residence of Mentone, Kosciusko County, and surrounding areas to report any known illegal narcotics activity to local police.
